About Blue Knights

DSCF4731

Blue Knights Club is an evangelization program designed for boys to build the armor of God.  Written by Dan McGuire, a retired U.S. Marine and Doctor of Theology, to address the needs of boys.  Dr. McGuire knows boys learn by short talks, activity, hearing interesting stories and following the example of their fathers.  So meetings follow this design.  The focus is to start a monthly conversation for parents and their sons.  The program has five years of material available, and can work for children first grade and up.

There is no national organization for Blue Knights.  It is a simple club, and becomes what the parents want it to be for their children.  We started as a once a month club, and the boys demanded more.  So we gave it to them a second meeting a month focused on review, quizzes and games!  Dr. McGuire’s books are good supplements to catechisms.  They will enrich both father and son’s knowledge of our Catholic faith, and let them grow together.

We obtain our materials from Behold Publications.  We have no mandatory fees or hold fundraisers.  Our mission is not to sell cookies or popcorn.  Our mission is to help parents raise saints.  We ask the parents to purchase the member’s book, breastplate, cape and polo shirt so the boys have a common uniform at a cost of $54.  We encourage parents to purchase the leader guide for themselves ($10), to help guide the children each month.  Then we ask parents contribute to the craft fund, or simply run a meeting where they provide the supplies.  On average we’ve spent $5 per child a month, and at most $8 for armor building supplies.  For children and families in extreme need we built a history of making it work with help from a few generous sponsors.

Finally, we operate under the sponsorship of Regina Caeli Academy.  We follow school’s child protection guidelines, and all adult leadership receives background checks.

We thank all parents and supporters of the program!

A short bio of Dr Dan McGuire can be found here at http://catholichomeschoolconferences.com/wordpress1/?page_id=374.  Please do not confuse him with the other Dr. Dan Mcguire tenured at Marquette University.  They could not be more different.
